For part two of the United States Government, I decided to write about Gun Control. The fact that we have people pushing to take away the rights of citizens of this great country, is absolutely appalling! We are afforded the right to our firearms according to the 2nd amendment. The argument that by taking away our weapons will make us safer is completely ridiculous.
We are a nation of over 300 million people, and estimated 270 million guns spread amongst us. We are the most well armed country in the entire world, because of the 2nd amendment. We have that right passed down to us from our forefathers because they saw first hand of a government that got too big for its britches, and saw what was needed to take it down. They didn't want us to be unarmed, and nor do I.
Majority of murders with guns are in gun free zones. These criminals aren't stupid, they know exactly where guns are allowed and where they are not. And those criminals that are killing them own those weapons illegally. The shooting in an Aurora, Colorado movie theatre, gun free zone. The school in Newton, CT, gun free zone. Muslim man goes on a shooting rampage in Ft. Hood, Texas, gun free zone. See a pattern?
As a Veteran of this wonderful country of ours, I swore an oath to defend the Constitution, and I, just like every other veteran, take that oath very seriously. When you talk about taking away my rights, that I defended, you are barking up the wrong tree. People will still be able to get their hands on weapons, legally or illegally, so if you make it harder for law abiding citizens to buy a gun, you are taking way their right to defend themselves, and that is not only wrong, it is inhumane.
Response to colleague's work.
ReplyDeleteI am do not agree or disagree with my classmate argument about gun control in his blog. It's true that our Founding Father secure the right to bear arms to protect us from the government. But we also have to remember that having a gun is more necessary than the present. People have to protect their family from wild animals, bandits, and we were also at war with the Native American, so you get more use from a gun. Today you're not protecting your family from any wild animals (most of us live in the city or suburban areas), or bandits. I'm not saying we should take away guns altogether. We do need to do something to have more control on the person that is buying gun. Maybe we could make anyone that buy gun need to take some psychological tests, shooting courses to make sure the person that is buying it isn't having any mental problems. We don't want to take away the Second Amendment, but we do need to do something to stop mass shooting at schools and public places. We do need to do something to stop these actions, unless we want innocent children get kill in cold blood.
I agree with James Middlebrooks I believe that we should have the right to bare arms. Our founding fathers have given us the right to bare arms I don't think it's fair to the people that have fought hard for this country to have that right taken away for them. They're are some people out there that really just want the right to have guns for the right reasons such as protecting their families for example if you live in the wilderness or in the mountains I feel it is ok to have the right to own a gun because if you run into a wild animal that's the best way you can defend yourself. Some people also want the right to own guns because they want to go hunting. Guns shouldn't be taken away, but what I do believe is that not everyone should have the right to own a gun. The people that are in violation of the law and that have bad records shouldn't be able to own guns because they are more prone to use guns for the wrong reasons. I think that with the government being a little strict on who has the right to own guns that will make the murder rate decrease.
